FAQs

Never been on a ‘tour’ before? We bet you have a lot of questions about how our Ride Outs are organised. Below we’ve tried to answer as many of these questions as possible, but if you have any we’ve missed, either before or after booking please do not hesitate to get in touch. We’ll do our best to answer them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

- Do we meet up in the UK?

Not normally, unless it’s a UK Ride Out, but we could …

Our European Ride Outs start and finish on European soil. We believe giving you the flexibility to book how you get there enables you to decide when you arrive - you may want the opportunity to soak up the local area before joining us for the Ride Out.

Don’t worry though, we can help with booking your chosen crossing if you want us to.

NB: All crossings are included in UK, Ireland and custom-made Ride Outs.

- What if none of your scheduled Ride Outs are right for me?

If none of our advertised Ride Outs suit you, contact us and we will design a custom-made guided one specifically for you. Whether that’s for a group of mates or a solo rider, it doesn’t matter to us! No minimum numbers required.

Also, if the advertised Ride Out is what you want but the dates don’t fit for you, contact us with your dates and we will see if we can run those dates for you. No minimum numbers required.

- How big are the Ride Out groups?

Your experience and enjoyment matter to us, we’re here to make sure it is as a great an escape as it can be, so we keep our numbers to between 6 & 8 customer bikes. We don’t have such large groups that it dilutes our capacity to provide the personal touch that we believe you deserve. Can you imagine trying to get to know everyone in a large group on a relatively short trip? It would be a bit like speed dating whenever we stop to relax, not to mention the queues we’d create at coffee and fuels stops.

- What format do you provide the GPS route maps in?

We don’t provide GPS routes for riders. All our guides have ridden in groups where we’ve been given GPS routes and encouraged to follow the ‘blue line’ and the rider in front. We believe that this can become overwhelming at times and can lead to riders fixating on the route, not what’s going on around them or the scenery they’re riding through – it’s our job to get you to the next destination, not yours, so heads up and enjoy the ride!

NB:  Our guides have full routes loaded to their GPS and operate a Tail End Charlie system, with one at the front and the other at the rear. The guide at the rear is there to monitor the group and will move up to fill in a gap and take the lead if the group starts to get too stretched – don’t worry, it’s the job of the lead rider to make sure this doesn’t happen, but if it does, we’ve got you covered.

Our info pack contains emergency contact details and address details of all the overnights should you need/want to put them into your GPS.

- Will my intercom connect to everyone elses?

Our lead riders do not connect to everyone’s intercom. There is genuinely nothing worse than listening to our lead riders singing through their headsets because they forgot to press mute, trust me, nobody wants that on their holiday! Our lead riders are connected only to each other and will constantly be communicating throughout the Ride Out.

NB: means of communicating with the lead riders is covered at the meet and greet and each day.

- If I am on my own, will I be asked to share with another rider?

We don’t expect people who’ve just met to share a room - as single rider you’ll have a room to yourself!

If you are 2 solo riders who know each other, you can of course choose to share, or not, the choice is yours.

- Do we have to eat with the group every night?

We don’t insist that everyone must get together in the evenings, DoIt’s your holiday! We will be staying in some incredible locations, if you want to go and explore the local area and restaurants, we can help with suggestions. If you want to get together with other guests and/or us that’s great, but not compulsory.

- Do we have to be in group photos?

We do not insist on group (tour) photos. If you want a group photo, we can take one for you or you can take one yourself, but it’s entirely up to you, and definitely not mandatory. We also do not put any photos of our customers on social media or our website for publicity, which is why it’s mostly the usual suspects on there – The Great Escape Team.

- How do I know if the level of riding is right for me?

We see it as our job to match what we do to your level of experience, not your job to ride outside of your comfort zone. That’s not fair, enjoyable, or safe.

Remember this is a motorcycling holiday, not a time trial from one destination to the next. We do our best to describe the Ride Out on the website and socials, but deliberately do not rank their ‘difficulty’ out of 10 because that is so subjective, it’s almost meaningless. If you have any questions call us and we will talk you through what’s involved, and you can decide for yourself – it’s always good to talk.

- What if I’m still undecided about it?

We know that when you book a holiday you are putting a lot of trust in the provider and those that run the company, so why don’t you ‘interview’ us before making your decision. We are more than happy to chat to you via the various video conferencing platforms that exist or the plain old medium of the phone. To be honest, if you’re not far from us and we aren’t busy, we’re happy to go grab a coffee and have a Ride Out.
